ISTANBUL: Turkish police detained a minimum of 15 protesters in Istanbul on Sunday (Jun 30) for collaborating in a banned LGBT Pleasure rally, after looking out the streets having arrived on the scene after contributors had dispersed, a Reuters witness stated.
The Istanbul Governor’s Workplace stated earlier on Sunday that the Pleasure March wouldn’t be permitted. Turkish police blocked central Istanbul to stop the march from happening, shutting down metro stations and blocking visitors on the primary streets.
President Tayyip Erdogan’s Islamic-rooted AK Occasion has toughened its rhetoric towards the LGBT neighborhood over the previous decade and banned satisfaction marches since 2015, citing “safety causes”.
The Istanbul Governor’s Workplace labelled the organizations calling for the Pleasure March as unlawful.
