MOSCOW: Russia’s higher home of parliament voted on Thursday (Dec 7) to set the date for Russia’s presidential election for Mar 17, 2024.
The choice was handed unanimously by 162 votes within the Federation Council.
“With this choice, we’re successfully launching the beginning of the election marketing campaign,” Valentina Matviyenko, head of the Federation Council, mentioned.
She added that for the primary time, residents of the elements of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson areas of Ukraine annexed by Russia would participate within the vote.
“By selecting a head of state collectively, we totally share the widespread accountability and customary future of our fatherland,” Matviyenko mentioned.
President Vladimir Putin has not but formally introduced his intention to run for a brand new six-year presidential time period.
