NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy on Friday (Jan 5) rescued the crew of a service provider vessel after its tried hijack within the Arabian Sea and stated it had not discovered any pirates on board.
An Indian Navy warship intercepted the Liberian-flagged MV Lila Norfolk bulk service lower than a day after it had obtained a report that the vessel had been hijacked about 460 nautical miles off Somalia.
About 5 to 6 armed individuals boarded the vessel on Thursday, in accordance with a report obtained by the UK Maritime Commerce Operations (UKMTO) company, which stated the ship’s crew had gathered within the ship’s citadel.
The navy stated all 21 crew on board, together with 15 Indians, had been evacuated.
The vessel, which was chartered by miner Anglo-American, left the Acu port in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Dec 6 carrying iron ore, the corporate stated in a press release.
“All the crew is secure and the ship is on its technique to its vacation spot, scheduled to reach on Jan 12,” it stated, with out detailing the amount of iron ore the ship was carrying.
The vessel was destined for Khalifa bin Salman in Bahrain, in accordance with British maritime safety agency Ambrey.
