George Russell was given a gap on the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, and he capitalized on it for his second profession win in Spielberg, Austria.
The 26-year-old Brit was the beneficiary of a collision between leaders Max Verstappen and Lando Norris on the sixty fourth of 71 laps. Verstappen had an eight-second lead about midway by way of the race, however Norris was in a position to scale back the deficit by greater than half at lap 59 after a gradual Verstappen pit cease.
5 laps later, the 2 have been battling for the lead when Norris and Verstappen made contact as Norris try and cross Verstappen. Neither driver was injured, however Norris’ automotive sustained a proper rear tire puncture, with Verstapppen’s left rear tire broken.
The incident allowed Russell to climb from third place to first.
Norris was compelled to finish the race. Race stewards discovered Verstappen at fault and he was penalized 10 seconds, ending in fifth place.
Russell now has the previous two wins for Mercedes, with the earlier victory coming in Brazil in 2022.
Russell completed the course in a single hour, 24 minutes. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri of Australia was second, 1.9 seconds behind Russell, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz of Spain in third.
Verstappen has seven victories this season for Crimson Bull Racing.
