The Nigerian authorities say greater than 270 inmates at the moment are identified to be lacking after escaping from custody when extreme flooding broken a jail within the north-eastern metropolis of Maiduguri.
Thus far, seven are again in detention.
The flooding was attributable to the collapse of a dam following heavy rainfall.
A number of hundred thousand individuals in Maiduguri, which is the Borno state capital, have been pressured from their properties by the floodwaters and at the very least 30 have died.
Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum described the extent of the harm as “past human creativeness”.
That is the primary time that the Nigerian authorities have admitted to the numbers who fled custody.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) mentioned on Sunday that after the partitions of the medium safety jail had been broken, inmates have been within the strategy of being transferred and a few managed to flee through the “evacuation to a secure and safe facility”.
Governor Zulum had earlier advised the BBC that some members of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram have been amongst those that had received out.

NCoS spokesperson Umar Abubakar has tried to guarantee the general public that his organisation is working with safety companies to recapture those that fled.
It has revealed the pictures of the lacking males and has urged individuals to stay calm including that the jail break doesn’t have an effect on public security.
